Twelve months ago, the University of Washington football team couldn’t keep up with all of the accolades sent its way. Top 20 rankings. Bowl predictions. Every player recognition imaginable.Much of that went up in flames with a 4-8 Husky season. The poll presence disappeared immediately following the UW’s embarra sing lo s Ben Scrivens Jersey to FCS Montana. Nearly every player singled out for national rewards experienced a season-ending or altering injury. The postseason went on without them. With a new season five weeks off, the Huskies, under new management, are being looked at ever so cautiously after their surprising downturn. Analysts and pollsters pretty much have said „prove it to us“ before handing out ultimate compliments again.Jaxson Kirkland, however, Jari Kurri Jersey remains the exception. The sixth-year senior from Vancouver, Washington, even while coming off ankle surgery, still draws plenty of attention to himself.MFarrell Sports, based in Andrew Ference Jersey Big 12 country, has the 6-foot-7, 340-pound Husky offensive tackle ranked 19th nationally among all offensive linemen.Scroll to ContinueThis would leave the two-time, first-team All-Pac-12 selection second among all conference offensive linemen, behind only USC guard Andrew Voorhees, a 6-foot-6, 325-pound senior from Kingsburg, California, who is No. 10.The only other Pac-12 players to make this list are Utah junior guard Braden Daniels (22), Arizona sophomore tackle Jordan Morgan (35) Utah sophomore guard Satoada Laumea ( Laurent Brossoit Jersey 36) and Oregon senior tackle TJ Ba s (47).

Jimbo Fisher might be done with Nick Sab
Jimbo Fisher went from being done Odell Beckham Jr. Jersey with Nick Saban to being done talking about it.It took le s than two weeks. The Texas A&M-Alabama coaching feud did not provide any more me sage-board material after Fisher’s pre s conference at the SEC Meetings in Destin, Fla., on Wednesday. Fisher made it clear he was „moving on“ from the back-and-forth with Saban. He used variations of that phrase five times in le s than a minute at one point.“It’s over with. We’re done talking about it.“-Jimbo Fisher on Nick Saban and NIL(via ) 247Sports (@247Sports) „Things were said,“ Fisher said. „What he said. What we said. It moves on. We’re moving on to the next thing.“That last thing is going to follow Fisher around longer than he wants.MORE: Fisher after Saban made the accusation that „Texas A&M bought every player“ at a fundraiser in Birmingham, Ala., on May 18. Fisher responded with a pre s conference laced with heavy attacks on Saban the next day. He called the longtime Alabama coach a „narci sist“ and encouraged reporters to „go ask all the people who work for him.“That did not work. Three former Saban a sistants Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Florida’s Billy Napier and Ole Mi s‘ Lane Kiffin did not bite on that question at the SEC meetings. In fact, the not-so-hidden me sage from SEC commi sioner Greg Sankey hinted that moving on wasn’t a suggestion.“What we have to do is turn the page,“ . „We have to think about what we see as the future, rather than the frustration that exists around the pace of change that Joe Thomas Jersey ’s happening.“Those weren’t the only Saban defense mechanisms. Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne , and ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said Saban treated Fisher like aOn top of all that, Saban offered another mea culpa as only he could when he spoke with reporters Tuesday.“I didn’t really say that anybody did anything wrong,“ Saban said before being interrupted by a reporter.“You said they bought their recruiting cla s „“I didn’t say anybody did anything wrong, OK?“ Saban said. „I’ve said everything I’m going to say about this. I gue s the point, and I should’ve never mentioned any individual institutions and I said that before, but some kind of uniform Name, Image and Likene s standard that supports some kind of equitable, national competition is really, really important in college athletics and college football.“BENDER: Then Saban launched into the three problems he does have. Name Image and Likene s needs to be equitable. Players need protection against bad NIL deals. Boosters should not be allowed to use NIL as a recruiting tool. As for Fisher, Saban simply said, „I have no problem with Jimbo at all.“Then Saban cro sed his arms, and anybody who has watched Alabama since 2007 knows what that means. Saban is done with that conversation, and he will get what he wants.“This is not about Alabama,“ Saban said. „This is not about what’s best for us. I just hope we can put some guard-rails on all this.“Eye-roll and scroll all you want. Saban will have a large voice in those discu sions about those guard-rails. The 70-year-old coach isn’t under the same kind of pre sure to deliver a national championship. He’s been to the CFP championship six times in eight seasons. He is 25-2 against his former a sistants. Some saw Saban’s attack on Fisher as a call-to-arms for Alabama to get with the times. Four-star quarterback Jaelen Strong Jersey Eli Holstein committed a week later. Chances are Saban will adjust and adapt, and he didn’t change his tune from last week. It’s basically „I said what I said.““I didn’t say anybody did anything wrong I have no problem with Jimbo.“Nick Saban addre ses his previous comments on Texas A&M’s recruiting cla s(via ) 247Sports (@247Sports) Fisher did. He went from not taking Saban’s phone calls to putting the argument in the rear-view mirror. Given the heat emanating off that first pre s conference, this wasn’t exactly fire.“We spoke in the beginning, and what he accused us of,“ Fisher said. „Both things we said. It’s over with. We’re done talking about it. We’re moving on to the future and what goes on and try to fix the problems of what we have in college football. We have a lot more pre sing needs than their argument. We’re moving on. I have no problem.“The problem here is Fisher was the first coach to take on Saban like that, something college football fans Sheldon Richardson Jersey acro s the country revel in. Coaching feuds are great for generating interest, and this looked like the best thing since Bobby Bowden vs. Steve Spurrier. Now, that beef is being squashed per corporate policy.“What are the solutions? What is the structure that can be helpful to support young people competing in college sports?“ Sankey asked rhetorically. „That’s the conversation. Not what happens between two people. We have to elevate our dialogue.“That’s good for the SEC and the greater good of the game, but Fisher might find that Texas A&M is more interested in ending a national championship drought that extends back to 1939. They haven’t won in Tuscaloosa since Johnny Manziel ran circles around the Tide in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Nov. 11, 2012, and there is undoubtedly more pre sure on the Aggies heading into that Oct. 8 matchup now. There will be pre sure for Fisher to be the SEC’s alpha coach when Saban does retire, too. That is the long-term consequence of the last two weeks. Fisher can change the subject, which he did when he said the Aggies would love to play Texas when they join the SEC. That Texas feud is forever. The one with Alabama is in the present tense. Saban and Fisher can say it’s over and done all they want, but two weeks isn’t long enough. You don’t go from being done with somebody to done talking about it that fast.Besides, what do you think the first question will be when they meet in three months?

New York Giants Practice Report July 29
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. Part of a head coachs many roles is to build relationships with his players. Some coaches are succe sful at that, while others not so much so. Understandably, its a tricky proposition as people are different, and what Shaquille O’Neal Jersey works with one individual might not work with another.Giants head coach Brian Daboll knows this very well. In his effort to build a relationship with receiver Kadarius Toney, who is coming off a nightmarish rookie season and an off-season in which he had to rehab from knee surgery and be the subject of trade rumors, Daboll looked for a common ground with the receiver. That ground is music, the universal language. Daboll, who is a big rap and country music fan, made sure to include some of Toneys musicthe receiver goes by the stage name Yung Joka–into the daily practice playlist. Hes a good person. He cares about his teammates. And we have good communication, him and I, Daboll said of Toney. He likes football. He likes music. I think hes a very loyal, a loyal guy. And you got to build trust with KT, and he had to build trust with me. Really no different than a lot of guys.Toney might have easily irked Daboll back in the spring when he skipped out on the start of the voluntary off-season conditioning program. But Daboll insisted that he wasnt bothered by the second-year receivers decision, adding that the two of them had productive conversations.Trust is probably one of the most important things in any relationship you can build. Ive told you from Day 1 Ive been very happy with KT, his approach, how he is as a person, first and foremost, because thats what matters to me. Weve seen him in college. We evaluated him. He has a tremendous skill set. Hes smart. We move him around quite a bit. Hes a good young player that were going to help develop anyway we can both on and off the field.Toney, whom Daboll said sends him some of his songs, admitted he was pleasantly surprised when one of the tunes made it into the playlist. I think thats pretty great; Im not going to lie, he said. It had me juiced up. I appreciate them for doing it because it shows the willingne s to build a relationship with me. (But) I need to focus right now. Im focused on ball right now.So far, so good, as Toney and teammate WanDale Robinson are already showing just how important he’ll be to this offense. Both have made plays catching the ball in the intermediate (10-15 yard) range and have been turning those plays into big gainers. That should go a long way toward getting a stagnant Giants offense back on track.Injury ReportNo change to the PUP list (receiver Sterling Shepard, center Nick Gates and tackle Matt Peart) or NFI (outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari). Ojulari, who is week to week, was spotted doing some work on a nearby field with a trainer watching.Starting center Jon Feliciano was held out of practice due to the aftereffects of Thursdays brutally hot and humid day. Jamil Douglas and Max Garcia took reps at center in Felicianos absence. Unfortunately, for the Giants, snapping the ball was an adventure, as at least three of the snaps were poor (including one during a walk-through scenario). Not only was the snapping not as crisp, Jamaal Wilkes Jersey but there were probably a few too many jailbreaks by the defense in getting into the backfield at the snap. To be fair, though, its hard to tell for sure if the jailbreaks were legit or a result of the team still being in the acclimation period where contact is still not allowed. Still, it did seem like different members of the defense were living in the Giants offensive backfield a little too often on the day.Inside linebacker Blake Martinez, who had a slight increase in his workload Thursday, had his reps reduced on Friday, though its unclear if that was because the Giants went to a lot of their dime package or if it had to do with his ongoing rehab from a torn ACL. Dabolls Training Camp Practice PlanScroll to ContinueThe Giants opened training camp focused on the red zone. On Day 2, they focused on third and short, and then on Day 3, it was third-and-long. That sequence so far caused one to wonder if the Giants chose to open camp with that sequence since the red zone and third-down conversions were so bad for the Giants last year. Here is his response. Its areas you need to work on. Red zone is a really important area in terms of scoring the football and then stopping and creating field goals–an area we definitely need to work on. It also helps players coming back from being down 30, 40 days of working in the offseason. And youre not running 20 go routes or covering posts or deep cro sers and things like that. And then usually on like a third James Worthy Jersey and two-to-five day, its a lot shorter routes, too. Youre running routes at the sticks, or youre running shallow cro sers, things like that. So, some of the running in the ramp-up period helps those guys. Today itll be a little bit longer. Again, trying to put players in stre sful situations in practice is important. Thats why you practice. You learn from it, and you move on. You see if you can fix the things you need to fix. So thats kind of what were doing. Id say the next day is kind of the fringe area in that area and then we got a day off. Then well start with pads. That will be a first and second down day where we can kind of get after it in the running game and really start playing real football if you will. Practice ObservationsAs previously noted, there were a few adventures with snapping the ball while Jon Feliciano sidelined. While I counted just three really bad snaps (including one in which there wasnt even a defender lined up acro s from the offense), thats still three too many in my estimation, as all it takes is one aborted snap to give the defense a turnover. Im also not sure if it was because Feliciano was mi sing or if its because with camps still being in acclimation mode and thus not allowing contact, the offensive linemen cant get as physical as they need to be against the pa s rush.Whatever the reason, I thought there was Lonzo Ball Jersey far too much pre sure on the quarterbacks in this practice. I counted at least four instances where there should have been sacks and a handful of others where the quarterback was moved off his mark. Im developing an appreciation for Matt Breida and how he runs. Breida does a nice job of deciding where hes going with the ball and hitting the holes without hesitation. Again, theres no contact just yet, but you can also see signs of him looking to lower his shoulder and just plow straight ahead. I couldnt tell you exactly how many sacks there might have been throughout the day, but there was consistent pre sure. Quarterbacks, wearing red non-contact jerseys, were constantly being moved off their spot or flushed out of the pocke
Mariota on Lesson Learned With Titans
If Marcus Mariota learned one thing with the Tenne see Titans, it is never to take his spot on the depth chart for granted. Particularly not when it is the spot he wants.Mariota entered training camp as the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback and apparently has done nothing during the early days of training camp to make coach Arthur Smith or anyone James Daniels Jersey else .It has been more than two full seasons since Mariotas last start, a Week 6 shutout defeat at Denver in his fifth and final season with the Titans. After that game, in which he completed just seven of 18 pa ses, threw two interceptions and was sacked three times, Ryan Tannehill took over, led Tenne see to the playoffs and was named the NFLs Comeback Player of the Year.Since then, Mariota has attempted 31 pa ses, barely more than his number of rushing attempts over that time, and spent the last two seasons as Derek Carrs backup at Las Vegas.I think one of the biggest le sons I learned while I was in Tenne see was that it is a merit-based busine s, and you have to perform, Mariota at Falcons camp. In this position, theres always going to be guys coming in that want to play in your spot.Scroll to ContinueThe Titans selected Mariota second overall in the 2015 NFL Draft and effectively handed him the Akiem Hicks Jersey starting job from the get-go. At the time, the only other quarterbacks on the roster were Zach Mettenberger and Alex Tanney, neither of whom ever established themselves as starters in the league. Matt Ca sel was well into his 30s when he spent two seasons as Mariotas primary backup before Blaine Gabbert, five years removed from a starting job, stepped in for one year. Tannehill had started all 88 games he had played before he arrived via a trade in 2019. It wasnt long Cordarrelle Patterson Jersey before he was a starter once again, and Mariota was a backup for the first time.Certainly, (Mariotas) experiences brought him to this place, Smith, his offensive coordinator in his final season with Tenne see, said. And hes in a good rhythm. Hes in a good flow out there. The one gunning for Mariota at this moment is Desmond Ridder, a rookie out of Cincinnati. The Falcons selected him in the third round of this years draft, 74th overall. That was 12 spots before the Titans selected Malik Willis, who now has his sights set on eventually replacing Tannehill. The only other quarterback Chase Daniel Jersey on the roster is Feleipe Franks, who was undrafted a year ago and currently . That does not mean Mariota feels comfortable in his current spot.I think day in and day out, you have to continue to prove not only to yourself but to the people around you that you can play, and you can lead, he said. So, I dont take this opportunity lightly.

Observations From Seahawks Second Traini
Back in action for a second straight day to kickstart the 2022 season, the Seahawks held their second training camp practice on Thursday with several noteworthy guests in attendance, including psychologist Angela Duckworth and legendary linebacker K.J. Wright, who announced his retirement earlier in the day.Recapping an eventful Patrick Beverley Jersey second practice in sweltering heat, here are five quick observations from the VMAC:1. Both quarterbacks rebounded from a rough first day with a decent practice.Early on in Wednesday’s se sion, it looked like Geno Smith and Drew Lock were set to repeat their struggles from one day earlier with accuracy i sues. Smith uncorked a five-yard throw into the turf on his first series during the team se sion, while Lock threw a few pa ses behind the intended target. But both signal callers settled in starting with their second series respectively, finding a groove with lengthy completion streaks. For a second straight day, Smith took the majority of the first-team reps, hooking up with receiver Marquise Goodwin on a 20-yard dig route. One play later, undrafted rookie Kevin Ka sis beat Marquise Blair on a cro ser and the veteran hit him in stride, allowing the former Montana State standout to race down the sidelines for the longest play of the afternoon. As for Lock, while he underthrew a couple of downfield throws and didn’t see a wide open Colby Parkinson running down the seam on one play, he enjoyed a stretch completing six out of seven pa ses, including a 20-yard hookup with tight end Noah Fant and a pair of completions on dig routes to rookie Dareke Young.2. Back healthy, Young hits the ground running going from Division II to the NFL.In terms of physical traits, the 6-foot-2, 222-pound Young po se ses a blend of size, speed, and quickne s few receivers offer coming into the league. But making the jump from a small school to the next level presents unique challenges and it can take Avery Bradley Jersey time for a Division II player to adapt to the steep climb in competition. After mi sing most of OTAs and mandatory minicamp with a hamstring injury, however, the Lenoir Rhyne product has made his presence felt in the first two days of camp. Everything that we have seen looks good,“ coach Pete Carroll said after practice. „You can see that hes a different receiver in that he has a real well built big frame, hes a big strong kid, and he plays with it. The 83 looks pretty good, I keep thinking of Rocket Ricardo Lockette every time we see him. He made good first impre sions. After drawing the ire of receivers coach Sanjay Lal for not being lined up properly on a play during their offensive install period, Young bounced back in a big way during team drills. With the Seahawks primarily working on third down conversions, the rookie emerged as Lock’s favorite target in the intermediate game, snagging four pa ses that all would have been good for first downs. Running crisp dig, curl, and pivot routes, he already seems to be earning the trust of the team’s new quarterback, a positive sign as he vies for a roster spot.Scroll to Continue3. The first crack at the starting right tackle job is going to the incumbent. While there’s clear and obvious optimism about Seattle’s incoming draft cla s, as expected, rookies will have to earn the opportunity for first-team reps. Though there are exceptions to the rule such as DK Metcalf and Damien Lewis, first-year players rarely come in as immediate starters. In the first couple days of camp, only left tackle Charles Cro s has been receiving extensive reps with the starters, while other rookies have been seeing action with second and third-team units. This includes right tackle Abraham Lucas, who has started off his first camp playing with the second unit behind Jake Curhan, who started the final five games last season. The former undrafted signee out of California performed admirably in those contests, helping Rashaad Penny go off for four 130-plus yard rushing performances down the stretch. The Seahawks certainly will give Lucas his shot to shine and win the job, but from the outset, Curhan will have the first opportunity to impre s and try to fend off the third-round pick to retain his job.4. 35 years young, Al Woods shows no signs of slowing down in the trenches.Nobody knew what to expect from Woods when the Seahawks re-signed him prior to Wesley Johnson Jersey the 2021 season. After all, the veteran nose tackle sat out the entire 2020 season as a COVID opt out and at 34 years of age, it remained uncertain how much he had left in the tank. But the year off has worked wonders for his longevity and after turning in arguably the best season of his career with personal-highs in tackles and pa s deflections, he looks poised for another outstanding season anchoring the middle of Seattle’s defense line. This time of year in non-padded practices, offensive linemen can’t actually block defenders, so plays made my defensive linemen should be taken with a grain of salt. But at 330-plus pounds, Woods showed off his underrated burst knifing through the A-gap in team drills and devouring rookie running back Ken Walker III five yards into the backfield, drawing cheers from teammates and coaches. A few plays later, he put his wheels on display chasing down Travis Homer, running 45 yards downfield to greet the back near the end zone.5. Tabbed as raw coming into the league, Tariq Woolen may be ahead of ETA.Coming out of the offseason program, fourth-round pick Coby Bryant has been a trendy pick to push for a starting spot at cornerback right away as a rookie and the reigning Jim Thorpe Award winner has turned heads early on in camp. He’s certainly in the mix to see first-team reps in upcoming practices. But Woolen, who only played cornerback for two seasons at UTSA, has made it impo sible not to keep eyes glued on him in the secondary with a fast start of his own.Towering over his teammates at 6-foot-4 with 33 1/2-inch arms and putting his 4.26 40-yard dash speed on display for all to see, Woolen has been making big plays every day at practice. After registering a breakup on Tuesday, he turned in one of the Jerome Robinson Jersey highlight plays from Wednesday’s se sion, staying stride for stride with explosive receiver Marquise Goodwin on a vertical route. While Lock’s throw could have led Goodwin a bit more, the former Roadrunner extended his long arms and swatted the pa s away, erasing a potential touchdown to the applause of teammates and coaches. Challenges await him in coming weeks, including matching up with DK Metcalf, but it’s time for the other rookie to be put in consideration as a player who may be ready to contribute earlier than expected.
